lent and live auctions. Read all about it on page 14.

changes we are making to this
year s event. As usual, we will conduct a live auction featuring the donated items and consignment
items with no reserve. Consignments with a
reserve will now be accepted for two different
sections of the Extravaganza: they can be con-
signed to the Buy It Now section or the Silent Auction section. Buy It Now: As you know, some Extrava- ganza attendees are anxious to buy glassware
and don t want to wait around for the auction.
Buy It Now items will be sold to the first buyer
who agrees to pay the stated reserve. We have
set aside two tables for Buy It Now. If you would like to consign items for this section,
send a list of those items to Melanie Hildreth
by August 18" . Since there are just two tables
available, glass items to be consigned to this section will be accepted on a first-come, first-
served basis. Silent Auction: Consignments with a re- serve not designated Buy It Now will be fea- tured in the Silent Auction section. With the ability to see the reserve, bidders will have
more time to think about the value of the item
and will have time to bid successfully. We are pleased to announce that Phil Stein will be back again this year as the seminar
speaker. Some of us have heard him speak
before on Vaseline Glass, and know the depth
of his research on that subject. This will cer- tainly be a great seminar that you will not want to miss! One portion of the Extravaganza we are not modifying is the Member s Displays. This
has been a favorite of the attendees and best
illustrates the beauty and utility of this elegant
glassware. In past years, some of the glass dis-
played has included very rare and hard to find
items. This is one of the most educational parts of our event. Education and disseminat-
ing information about American made glass-
ware is our mission! Extravaganza XVI begins at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 18` h . Mark you calendar now so you will not miss this exciting day. Since this is our annual fundraising event, we are instituting a $3 admission charge at the
door. This will help cover the cost of the room rental. Also, in the spirit of our mission,
we are asking each member to donate two
pieces of American made glassware to the
general auction in advance. Local members
may bring their donations to a monthly meet-
ing. Members unable to attend a meeting may
ship their glass donations to: FGC, Inc

By Melanie Hildreth T here is often confusion among col-
lectors identifying items from the
Fostoria #2496 Baroque or #2545 Flame patterns. This article is intended to help the
collector differentiate between these two similar
patterns. Since many of the pieces in the Fostoria #2496 Baroque line are adorned with the fleur-de-lis, col-
lectors often use that as an identifying characteris-
tic of the pattern. There are actually a number of
pieces that were produced in the Baroque line that
do not carry the fleur-de-lis, and these pieces are
sometimes confused with the Fostoria #2545
Flame pattern. Examples of pieces known to not
have the fleur-de-lis are the two, three, and four-
part Relishes, Jelly and Cover, Preserve and
Cover, both Comports, Handled Mint, Sweetmeat,
8-inch Oval Tray, Oval Sauce Dish, 2-part May-
onnaise, Smoker Set, 10-inch floating garden, 1 0
