DATE: Symposium Call for Papers Food Distribution Issues from Around the Globe: An International
Symposium Friday, June 25, 2004 The Food Distribution Research Society Study Tour to
Spain concludes with an international symposium on
Friday, June 25. The symposium is intended to
provide an opportunity for food industry
representatives and academicians from around the
world to present seminars on current issues in food
distribution. One aspect of the symposium will focus
on the successes of value-added and food
cooperatives in both Spain and the United States.
The symposium will begin at 8:00 am and conclude
no later than 2:00 pm, with each presentation being
20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of questions. Paired presentations providing international
relationships (such as US and Spain, Spain and
France, US and Italy, etc.) are strongly encouraged. The best papers will be considered for publication in
a special issue of The Journal of Food Distribution Research. Please submit abstracts by February 20, 2004, to Dixie Watts Reaves
(dixie@vt.edu). Abstracts should be one to two pages, double-spaced, and
should be submitted via e-mail as Word attachments. Authors will be notified

231-6153; Fax (540) 231-7417; E-mail dixie@vt.edu. Continuing Education Units Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are a nationally recognized uniform unit of
measurement designed to cumulatively record an individuals non-credit
continuing education accomplishments. One CEU equals 10 contact hours. Four
(4.0) CEUs will be provided for attending the study tour and symposium. A CEU
certificate will be sent to you for your records upon successful completion of the
tour and symposium. Registration Details Trip Registration and Deadlines Registration fees have been established for those interested in attending the full
study tour and symposium, just attending the symposium (offered for those in
Europe that are interested in just attending the June 25 Symposium), and for a
spouse/host to accompany you with your full registration. The registration fee is
$1950 per person with some additional options for the symposium and guests.
Submit your registration form and a $500 deposit no later than March 15,
2004. The remainder of the fee is due by May 1, 2004. The full registration fee ($1950) includes: 6 nights deluxe accommodations
(June 20 check-in and June 26 check-out) breakfast (MondaySaturday)
lunch (MondayFriday) dinner and reception (Thursday) reception (Friday)
in-country transportation for the study tour program and from Madrid to Valencia
speakers handouts and conference materials. The symposium registration fee ($125) includes: breakfast, breaks, lunch, and
reception on Friday, June 25. The spouse/host registration fee ($400) includes: lodging with spouse/host (6
nights deluxe accommodations) breakfast (MondaySaturday) lunch
(Wednesday) dinner and reception (Friday)
transportation from Madrid to Valencia with
group on Wednesday. The registration fees do not include: air fare to
Spain ground transportation to and from the
airport. Refund and Cancellation Policy: Requests for refunds are honored if received before May 1, 2004. However,
substitutions are available at any time. A $100
administrative fee will be deducted for cancellations. In the
unlikely event that this program is cancelled or postponed due
to insufficient enrollments or unforeseen circumstances, the
university will fully refund registration fees but cannot be held
responsible for any other expenses, including cancellation or
change charges assessed by airlines, hotels, travel agencies, or
